I can give you a list of at least 20 jazz clubs in and around Salt Lake City that not only host a thriving local jazz scene (SLAJO or Salt Lake Alternative Jazz Orchestra is one of the best jazz groups, I would argue, in the west) but world class musicians regularly play here and the Park City Jazz Festival is one of the premiere fastivals in the country. He informs me that of 800 refugees brought to SLC, 40 are convicted felons; some with unresolved cases. The <EM>Los Angeles</EM> Lakers? There are lakes in Minnesota, but not in LA. The <EM> Los Angeles</EM> Dodgers? There never were any trolley cars to dodge in LA. The Braves were named after the patriots who dressed up in Indian gear to throw the Boston Tea Party. So were the Redskins. What are teams with those names doing in Atlanta and Washington, respectively? The Utah Jazz is (are?) merely the worst example. Ever been to Salt Lake City? I have. It's a great town. But jazz clubs are not among its many charms. Now LA, the worst name thief in America (see above), has some great jazz places.
