As Fitz walked to the front of the store, he turned the gun on himself — staring at the real-estate agent as he pulled the trigger, Malitzky said. "He looked at me, turned the gun on himself, and he fell to the floor," Malitzky said. "Blood was oozing out of his head." But the shot was not enough to kill Fitz, who lifted himself up and reached for his gun again. The quick-thinking Malitzky pushed the gun out of the way with a swift kick from his just-manicured foot.

"I wasn't going to take any chances," he said.
