Jim O'Sullivan has a great post on the media coverage of events in Haiti and the contrast with coverage of events in Iraq.
The Feel-Good Story of the day.
It seems that in the case of Haiti, news is that the U.N. peacekeepers established an apparently well-intentioned soccer for peace program (the good news) - not the massacre of participants in the program (the bad news) ...Where were the peacekeepers? That might be the kind of question a journalist could sink her teeth into!
Jim's got the links. Read the stories and Jim's commentary.
As Jim points out: "Now, let's play today's edition of the MSM game: substitute Iraq for Haiti, US for UN, and terrorists, uh, insurgents, for Haitian cops and thugs. How many papers would have carried the feel-good story of the day?"
