U.S. Couple K.O.s Mideast Pirates
by URI DAN, N.Y. POST, June 6, 2005

Excerpt:

"Joseph Barry and girlfriend Carol Martini, both 50, were off the coast of Aden, Yemen, in their yacht, Gandalf, when they were attacked two weeks ago by two boatloads of men with automatic weapons.

As bullets smashed into the mast, Barry tried to sail away, but his boat could only manage seven or eight knots.

Luckily, another yacht was nearby — manned by friends they had met on their travels.

The skipper of the second yacht grabbed a shotgun and opened fire, wounding two of the pirates.

At that point, Barry decided that his only alternative was to smash his iron-hulled yacht into the second wooden boat.

'I knew we were in a life-or-death situation. Therefore, I accelerated and collided with all the force I could muster. The pirates were severely wounded by this collision,' Berry told Hillel Reshef, the director of the marina in Ashkelon, Israel."
